What TruckPin can do
This page shows everything TruckPin does today – explained the way you would tell a colleague, no tech talk. And below that: what we are working on.
What TruckPin does today
-
Live map with colleagues
You see on the map who is on the road nearby. Only drivers who switch themselves visible show up – and only those who show themselves can see others. You decide how precisely your position is shown, and the “Who can I see?” filter keeps your map tidy.
-
Over 19,000 truck parking areas
Drivers report with one tap whether a site is free, nearly full or full – and you see how fresh the report is. Plus ratings, “Who is here?” and reports when a site doesn't exist or is closed for roadworks.
-
Border crossings
How long is the queue at the border right now? The waiting reports come from drivers who are actually standing there.
-
Chat that translates
You write in your language, your colleague reads in his – TruckPin translates automatically, in 7 languages. The original stays visible. Voice messages and push notifications are included.
-
Radio
Like CB radio, just on your phone: pick a channel, press the talk button, speak. Keeps running while TruckPin is in the background and your sat nav is up front.
-
Convoy mode
Travelling together? In a convoy you see each other's position and distance – nobody gets lost.
-
SOS to friends
One button for emergencies: your position goes straight to your confirmed friends. Always works – even if you are invisible on the map.
-
Groups
Your own groups with their own colour on the map, with admins and join-on-approval. Also suitable for companies that want to keep their drivers together.
-
Invite friends
By code, link or QR code – quickly shown at the rest stop, and you're connected.
-
Wish box
Missing something? Write it straight into the wish box in the app. We read every wish.
-
The map, your way
The map can follow a driver, the find-me button brings you back to your own position with one tap, and if you like you can switch to satellite or hybrid view.
-
Navigation that fits your vehicle
Enter a destination, pick your vehicle (from car to 40-tonne truck with trailer) – TruckPin calculates the route to match your height, weight and length. With on-screen turn instructions, speedometer, arrival time and alternative routes. Take a different turn and it recalculates instantly – no stubborn “please turn around”. In tunnels your position simply keeps moving, and the search reliably finds companies and yards at the right spot.
-
On the road together: follow, adopt, meet
Tap a colleague on the map and choose: navigate there, follow them (your navigation keeps up wherever they go), adopt their route (same destination, but your own route matching your vehicle) or a meeting point along their way. No other navigation can do that.
-
Chat with ticks
Just like WhatsApp: one tick = sent, two = delivered, blue = read. And while you're in a conversation, its push notifications stay silent.
-
Save and share your own places
You know the yard? Save the weighbridge, the exact unloading point or the right entrance straight on the map – with a note like “report to the office first”. Keep the place to yourself or share it with friends, your group or all drivers. And the note automatically appears in each reader's OWN language.
Android and iPhone
TruckPin is the same on both – following a driver, adopting a route and meeting points work on both too. There are three honest differences: on iPhone the map comes from Apple instead of Google (slightly different map look, same functions). Alternative routes are chosen from the route list on iPhone instead of tapping the line on the map. And “background location” is currently Android-only – it comes to iPhone with one of the next app updates.
What's coming next
TruckPin keeps growing. What we are working on and what is planned is listed here – deliberately without dates: it's done when it's good.
-
Position even with the app closed
Your pin should stay up to date even when the app isn't open.
-
Mini window (Android)
Like a sat nav: a small TruckPin window on top of other apps, so you keep an eye on the map.
-
Pins in real time
Colleagues should glide smoothly across the map instead of jumping.
-
Traffic jams and hazards
Reports from drivers about jams, accidents and broken-down vehicles on the route.
-
Fuel prices
Prices along your route – fill up where it pays off.
-
Driving and rest time helper
Your hours at a glance, before they run out.
-
Working hours analysis
Hours, overtime and time account evaluated automatically – like a digital logbook.
-
Radio expansion
Local-area channel around you, channel shown on the driver pin, direct call to colleagues – and channel 9 as the truckers’ meeting point, just like on CB radio.
-
Parking forecast
How full will the site be when you arrive? We want to make that predictable.
-
Height and clearance warnings
A warning before it gets too low or too narrow.
-
Alpine passes and weather
Conditions on the passes and the weather along your route.
-
Truck washes, workshops, weighbridges
More places on the map that matter in a driver's day.
-
Toll calculator
What does the route cost? Know beforehand instead of wondering afterwards.
-
Loading and rolling highway
Information about rail loading and rolling-highway services.
-
Company areas
Dedicated areas for fleets – so dispatchers and drivers can work together.
-
Voice guidance for navigation
“In 300 metres, turn right” – spoken, in your language, easy to switch on and off. Plus navigation that keeps running when you briefly switch to another app.
The order in which all this arrives is decided together with the drivers: the wish box in the app shows us what is missed most.
Want to try it yourself?
TruckPin is currently in a closed test phase. If you would like to try the app: you can become a test driver here.
